Paper Towns Soundtrack

Soundtrack to Paper Towns
for some reason to me Lo-fi music seem to fit. The real sound track will probably contain lots of new folk music and indie pop bands and a lot of really popular, recognized bands. The soundtrack for the producers last movie, Juno, was number one on the billboard charts for a long time. Im sure that this one will be just as good if not better. I didn't use a lot of the songs that I thought would be on the soundtrack, though I could probably predict a few, I used songs I listened to as I read the book and songs that I really like. all of these songs have very fitting lyrics but are very bad quality songs and are not exactly fitting for a movie soundtrack. I was thinking that if they were to be covered by some new upcoming folk artist they would fit a lot better but I think John Green would love some Lo-Fi in the movie since it is one of his favorite types of music.

The Mountain Goats- [anything by the mountain goats would work because every single one of their songs is amazing, also they should respect the fact that the book refers to the mountain goats multiple times]
*Im not going to take time to list every song on Ghana but any song from that album would work
Distant Stations
Color in Your Cheeks
The Mess Inside
Distant Stations
Cotton
Letter From Belgium

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone-
Young Shields
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone Joins the Foreign Legion
You Never CallI
Should Have Kissed You When I Had the Chance
It's Winter and You Don't Love Me Anymore
Seattle, Washington [this song is especially appropriate
lyrics: "i'm sick of all my stuff and halfway broke
to tired to pretend that i'm not sick of my friends
some days i'm sorry that i ever moved here
some days i think about moving back in with my folks"]

The Radio Dept.-
The City Limit [for the driving scenes]
Where The Damage isn't Already Done
Bus [this song also fits with the plot]
Against The Tide

Ryland Bouchard- [Im thinking there should be a lot of Ryland Bouchard songs, he just made an amazing solo album that I was listening to as I read Paper Towns. the music is very fitting. Maybe even add some songs by his band The Robot Ate Me. I have just selected a few but a lot of them would work. Getting his name out to the world would be great. He deserves it. Juno got Kimya Dawson out to the world so whoever compiles this soundtrack has the opportunity to expose a lot of great independent musicians]
Puke Pig
Woke Up Alone
Bye Bye Love No. 3
Henry The Devil

Moldy Peaches- [a lot of Moldy Peaches songs would work as well and you know they will be in there]
New York City Is Like A Graveyard [This song might work because some of the book takes place in New York]
The ballad of Helen Keller Rip van Winkle

Black Moth Super Rainbow- [maybe?]
Rollerdisco
Jump Into My Mouth and Breathe
Sun Lips

Daniel Johnston-[this is pretty far out there, I dont think that a commercial movie could have Daniel Johnston songs in it. He writes such pure lyrics though. it would be a brave move that might go well with the movie or might not depending on the directors interpretation of the book]
I Live For Love
Museum of Love
Love Defined

Beck-
Totally Confused [very early beck song from when he was making very creepy Lo-Fi music and was very influenced by Daniel Johnston, later Beck would work too, but in my opinion the Lo-fi stuff is Becks greatest work]

Guided By Voices- [a lot of the songs on Bee Thousand]
The Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory
Yours To Keep
Gold Star For Robot Boy
Awful Bliss
Kicker Of Elves
Esther's Day
I Am A Scientist
You're Not An Airplane

Eels-
Beautiful Freak
Elisabeth On The Bathroom Floor
Flower

Jeffrey Lewis-
[Jeffrey Lewis did folk covers of a lot of Crass songs, im thinking any one of these would work. Crass wrote great lyrics and the Crass lyrics are appropriate for the movie. I think Margo is the type of girl who would listen to Crass. her anarchistic ways make the songs fit perfectly. The one problem with putting the Crass songs in the movie is that they are very rough and raw. the would isn't ready for Crass so Jeffrey Lewis did nice sweet little folk covers that are perfect for the mood and that go along with the rest of the music I have selected.]
End Result
Do They Owe Us A Living?
Big A, Little A
Punk Is Dead
